"But I have not used any of these rights. And I am not writing this in the hope that you will do such things for me, for I would rather die than allow anyone to deprive me of this boast." 1 Corinthians 9:15
Paul did not insist on being supported financially for his preaching ministry. He would rather die than to bring shame on the name of Christ or to make it seem as if he preached for love of money instead of for love of God. Preachers today should not demand support or emphasize that they should be supported either.
O Great Shepherd, those of us who are Your "under-shepherds" over Your sheep must not seek our own gain but the spiritual gain of the sheep. Those of us who benefit from the work of Your shepherds must be thankful and willing to support them according to our ability.
